Job Description

Job Summary:


This role is for an Operating Room Nurse in a Level I trauma center, requiring a minimum of three years of experience and proficiency in a wide range of surgical specialties. The nurse will provide perioperative care, collaborate with the surgical team, and manage various aspects of patient care within a fast-paced environment. On-call responsibilities are expected one day per week.

Location: Springfield, Illinois, United States,

Responsibilities:

- Providing perioperative nursing care across various surgical specialties (General Surgery, Neurology, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, Transplant, Urology, Trauma).
- Managing patient care, including medication administration, monitoring vital signs, and maintaining sterile technique.
- Collaborating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team.
- Preparing operating rooms, instruments, and supplies.
- Assisting with procedures and providing post-operative care.
- Maintaining accurate patient records and documentation using Cerner.
- Responding to codes and emergency situations.
- Adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
- Managing blood products and specimens.
- Working with all service lines except Cardiovascular.


Required Skills & Certifications:

- Minimum three years of operating room experience.
- Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois.
- BLS certification.
- Experience with a wide range of surgical procedures (as detailed in the input).
- Proficiency in operating room equipment and instrumentation.
- Experience with Cerner.
- Level I trauma experience.
- Laparoscopic assisted bariatric case experience.
- Experience with emergency management (codes, fire safety, latex allergy, malignant hyperthermia).
- Knowledge of infection control, radiation safety, and specimen handling.
- Understanding of Universal Protocol (Time out) Procedure.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- CNOR certification.
- CST certification.


Special Considerations:

- On-call duty is required one day per week.
- Weekend work is required once per month.
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility.
- All requested time off must be approved by the manager.
- The client may cancel up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment without penalty; additional cancellations will be billed.
- On-call shifts in lieu of cancelled shifts will count as cancelled shifts.
- The nurse will float within their skill set, but this is rare.
- Block scheduling is not accommodated.


Scheduling:

- Four 10-hour shifts per week (08:45 - 19:15).
- Shift assignments are not detailed.
