Job Description

1 year contract through April 2026 for a Systems Engineer who has migrated on-prem to Cloud. This is a hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) role at 410 Commerce Blvd, Carlstadt, NJ 07072.

Type: Contract, possibility of extension

Work location: Hybrid - 3 days onsite, 2 days remote

W2 hourly pay: $41.38/hour (W2 Capstone employee if selected)

Length: 11-12 months

You must have the following:

  • Datacenter Experience
  • Cloud (Azure or AWS) Experience
  • Transformation Experience (have gone from on-prem to Cloud)

Preferred: Bachelors Degree in computer science or other related field Cloud or Virtualization Certification

3 – 5 years experience in relevant field

The role:

Our global SaaS client is seeking an experienced Cloud and On Premises systems engineer to implement and manage a hybrid computer working environment. Our ideal candidate would have knowledge and experience in implementing a multi-cloud (AWS and Azure) along with Linux Kernel-based Virtual Machine experience to help us implement and maintain our evolving compute strategy. Additional experience working with NetApp, APC UPS and PDU devices, and office planning/strategy would also beneficial.

This is a 1 year consultant role transformation to cloud from premises, keep lights on and push evolution.

Responsibilities

Infrastructure implementation and maintenance

• Design, deploy, and maintain compute and storage solutions for on-premises data centers and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) which may include rack-and-stack of equipment.

• Automate deployment and scaling processes for physical and virtual servers, as well as cloud instances

Data Center Equipment Automation and Maintenance

• Implement and maintain automation scripts and tools for critical data center equipment such as UPS, PDUs, CRAC units, and environmental monitoring systems

• Perform firmware and software updates for power and cooling systems, ensuring compliance with vendor guidelines

• Monitor and automate responses to alerts from data center hardware to ensure uptime and reliability

System Monitoring & Optimization

• Implement monitoring solutions for compute, storage, and data center equipment performance using tools like Dynatrace, Logic Monitoring, or vendor-specific platforms

• Proactively troubleshoot and resolve system and equipment performance issues.

Automation & CI/CD

• Use tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet for infrastructure and equipment automation

• Implement additional tools as needed such as Morpheus or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to automate deployment of virtual systems in AWS, Azure, Google Cloud or On-Premises hypervisors.

Storage Solutions

• Manage SAN/NAS systems, backup (Rubrik, Commvault), and disaster recovery solutions

• Work with cloud storage services like S3, Blob Storage, or equivalent for data management and archival

Hybrid Environment Expertise

• Integrate on-premises and cloud environments for seamless operation and data exchange

• Transformed datacenter to next-gen edge locations and datacenter

• Implement hybrid cloud strategies, including migration plans, scalability, and cost optimization

Security & Compliance

• Ensure infrastructure and data center equipment security by implementing best practices for access control, encryption, and monitoring

• Maintain compliance with relevant standards such as SOX, GDPR, or SOC 2

Minimum Qualifications (preferred)

• Technical Expertise

o 4-6 Years working with AWS, Azure and Linux KVM

o Proficiency with Linux and Windows operating systems

o Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Citrix, KVM)

o In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and associated services

o Expertise in storage technologies (SAN, NAS, Object Storage)

o Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, or PowerShell)

o Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

o Knowledge of managing and automating data center equipment like UPS and PDUs

• DevOps Tools

o VM Orchestration: Morpheus Cloud Manager, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

o CI/CD: Jenkins, GitLab CI

o Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates

o Monitoring & Logging: Dynatrace, Grafana, ELK Stack

• Soft Skills

o Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail

o Excellent communication and documentation skills

o Ability to work in a collaborative, agile environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Azure Solutions Architect, VMware Certified Professional, or vendor certifications for data center equipment

• Experience in hybrid cloud strategy and implementation

• Knowledge of network management and security practices

• Experience with automation frameworks for data center hardware
