Job Opportunity: Educational Sign Language Interpreter Location: Alexandria, VA Employer: Amergis Healthcare Staffing Position Type: Contract Duration: 39 weeks Work Hours :35 hours/week About the Role We are seeking aqualified and compassionate Educational SignLanguage Interpreter to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students inaccessing equitable education. This role is essential in facilitatingcommunication between students and educators, peers, and staff within theacademic environment. Using American SignLanguage (ASL), the interpreter will translate spoken language into signlanguage and vice versa, ensuring students receive full access to classroominstruction, activities, and discussions. Key Responsibilities + Interpret spoken language into ASL and ASL into spoken language during classroom instruction, school events, and peer interactions. + Collaborate with educators and support staff to implement accommodations aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). + Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards of practice. + Provide cultural and linguistic mediation when appropriate to enhance student understanding. Minimum Requirements + Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) + Associate's or Bachelor's degree in interpreting, deaf studies, or a related field (preferred) + State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable) + Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certificate (as required by state or client) + Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification (as required by state or client) + Compliance with all relevant professional standards of practice + Current CPR certification (if applicable) + TB questionnaire, PPD test, or chest x-ray (if applicable) + Current health certificate (per contract or state regulation) + Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements + Must be at least 18 years of age What We Offer + A supportive and inclusive educational environment + Opportunities for professional development and growth + The chance to make a meaningful impact in students' lives If this is somethingthat you or someone you may know are interested in learning more about, pleasefeel free to give me a call/textat 813- 402-3391 or shoot me an email at fecripe@amergis.com !
