Job Description

As a core member of the pediatric critical care transport team (rotor wing, ground) the Pediatric Critical Care Transport Paramedic practices with the critical care transport team members and collaborates with the team to facilitate the coordination of patient care in the transport environment. Through a combination of protocols and direct medical oversight, the pediatric Critical Care Transport Paramedic treats patient and family responses to actual or potential health problems. The Pediatric Critical Care Transport Paramedic is accountable to the patient, family, peers, and the Program Manager. The Pediatric Critical Care Transport Paramedic is expected to perform skills that surpass the level of care provided by prehospital paramedics. Patient and family centered care (PFCC) at YNHH is demonstrated by working with patients and their families based on the 4 principles of PFCC: participation, dignity and respect, information sharing, and collaboration. This includes providing service excellence by creating a great "First Impression" by demonstrating exemplary customer service skills for all customer groups including patients, families/friends, and physicians and promotes a positive work environment.

  • 2. Maintains competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clincial experiences. Communicates educational needs to the Pediatric Transport Managers and Service Line Educator.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION


Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Connecticut required, National Registry preferred. Must be in compliance with State Continuing Education requirements as outlined by Connecticut code and DHR regulations for Paramedics. -Pediatric experience preferred -Competencies, as defined by the department, must be completed within six months of hire


EXPERIENCE


3 or more currently active years of experience as field Paramedic / Critical Care Paramedic or Flight Paramedic with a recognized EMS pre hospital or Specialty Care Transport Provider.


LICENSURE


National Registered EMT-P licensed in state. FP-C, CCP-P or C-NPT preferred Specialty certification is expected within 12 months of hire. Current certifications in BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS (or PHTLS equivalent)


SPECIAL SKILLS


Central venous catheter careCPAP/BiPAP, Blood product administration, Foley catheter maintenance, Supraglottic airway -- LMA, Administering medications authorized by the protocols, Administering medications ordered by an LIP, Chest tube maintenance, Video-assisted intubation (C-Mac/glidescope), IO placement and maintenance, iSTAT -- CG4, GC8, ABG, Troponin, Mechanical ventilation, Transvenous pacing, Sigma pump infusion, A-line monitoring, Epicardial pacing, NG/OG tube maintenance, CVP monitoring, Ventriculostomy monitoring.


PHYSICAL DEMAND


PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Must be able to enter vehicle unaided. Must be able to wear seat belt in vehicle. Hearing/Speaking: Effective communication with patients, staff, and visitors. Standing: 30 - 70 % of the workday. Sitting: 0 - 10 % of the workday. Walking: 30 - 70 % of the workday. Climbing: 0 - 10 % of the workday. Pushing/Pulling: 0 - 70 % of the workday. Bending/Stooping: 0 - 70 % of the workday. Lifting: 1 - 30 % of the workday; Up to 30 lbs. independently and up to 250 lbs. with assistance. V. WORKING CONDITIONS Definite potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
