So, what will a Lead Physical Security Specialist do?

The Executive Office for the United States Attorneys (EOUSA) mission is to provide close liaison between the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington DC., for the ninety-four United States Attorneys Districts, located throughout the fifty states, the District of Columbia, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. As Lead Physical Security Specialist , provide expert-level support for the planning, coordination, implementation, and oversight of physical security operations across U.S. Attorney's Offices nationwide. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and protection of personnel, facilities, and sensitive materials through the development and enforcement of physical security programs and policies.

What does a typical day look like for the Lead Physical Security Specialist?

You will:

  • Provide technical support for USAOs on security systems and other physical security issues. Diagnose issues and coordinate with the appropriate staff (such as Information Technology (IT), Personnel Security, HSPD-12 and USAO staff) to resolve and confirm completion. Create scopes of work (SOWs) for projects and service tickets to have security vendors correct issues and restore complete operation of the security systems.
  • Monitor Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) communications network status. Coordinate with the IT staff and monitoring company to resolve communication errors and issues as they occur.
  • Complete security design packages including SOWs and drawings. Work with security installers on planning software and hardware upgrades, new installation projects and other security equipment projects.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with various IT staff on security system shared interests, to include Personnel Access Control System (PACS) certificate validation, IP CCTV, new equipment/systems testing in lab environment, etc.
  • Participate in physical security surveys and inspections, as requested, throughout 94 Districts comprising approximately 300 USAO facilities to determine if designated areas meet accepted standards for the safeguarding of life, property, assets and classified information. Assist in drafting results of surveys and inspections to include detailed evaluations and recommendations for review and revision. This includes the generation of cost estimates and/or Statements of Work.
  • Apply appropriate security standards during building design, upgrade and/or renovation phases prior to occupying new, upgraded, or renovated USAO space. Integrate all physical, technical and system security requirements into the overall security design, using AutoCAD, Visio and Microsoft Project.
  • Aid USAO field offices on physical security standards, especially during project development.
  • Assists in review of alteration, expansion, and new construction documentation to identify security related items that require revision or further clarification to meet applicable standards.
  • Participate in project meetings with Facilities Management, field offices, GSA and their selected building contractors.
  • Provide technical assistance on physical security systems troubles and issues to the USAOs. Assistance can be in the form of telephone/email support, remote in capability, or on-site visits.
  • Take part in special projects and studies affecting the overall security of USAO facilities and property.
  • 3 and 4 CON Facility Security Support:
    • Provide technical support on facility security systems, to include PACS, IDS, IPCTV, intercoms, portals, barriers, duress alarms, x-ray machines, walk-thru metal detectors and emergency call stations.
  • Provide daily inspections of all perimeter portals and garage entry systems to ensure proper working order. Inform and advise management of issues and resolutions regarding the building's security systems.
  • Create and manage service requests for both in-warranty and out-of-warranty service on all security related systems. Test and verify systems proper working order after repairs or reported incidents.
  • Serve as the POC and primary escort for security vendors providing maintenance and service on security systems. Manage and track service history and vendor response on all related systems.
  • Provide input and support the Government's development of Statements of Work and Sources Sought for critical systems maintenance contracts. Provide support to develop specifications, drawings and quotes for security system up-grades and modifications.
  • Advise and instruct Justice Protective Service Officers on the proper procedures operating related system.

What qualifications do you look for?

  • Authorization to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Active Top Secret (TS) clearance
  • Bachelor's degree with ten (10) years of experience or fifteen (15) years of relevant physical security experience designing, engineering, programming and installation of complex physical security systems operations and installations composed of networked access control, closed circuit TV, intercoms, vehicle barriers, duress alarms, and other ancillary systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal physical security policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Experience conducting facility security assessments and implementing corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with DOJ, ISC, FOUO, and classified material handling procedures.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and security management systems.
