Job Title: Industrial HVAC Chiller Specialist

Location: San Jose, CA

Job Summary

We seek a highly skilled and experienced Industrial HVAC Chiller Specialist to join our growing San Jose, CA team. This full-time field-based role is focused on servicing and optimizing complex industrial chiller systems and central plant HVAC infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring advanced technical knowledge, hands-on experience with large-capacity chillers (100+ tons), and a commitment to safety and performance in demanding industrial settings such as manufacturing, biotech, and data center environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Chiller System Diagnostics & Repair: Perform expert-level diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on industrial-grade air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, including screw and centrifugal models.
  • Industrial Plant Support: Service HVAC systems and central plant equipment within large-scale industrial environments, ensuring compliance with site-specific operational standards.
  • Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Execute scheduled maintenance and inspections of chillers, cooling towers, pumps, motors, valves, and associated automation/control systems.
  • System Start-Up & Commissioning: Lead full-cycle system commissioning, including programming, control integration, and post-installation testing.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Identify and correct mechanical and electrical faults within chiller and HVAC subsystems with minimal supervision.
  • BAS/BMS Integration: Work with Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS) to optimize chiller and HVAC performance in energy-intensive environments.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to urgent repair requests as part of a rotating on-call schedule and provide timely, effective service resolutions.
  • Technical Documentation: Use digital tools and service management systems to maintain comprehensive service logs, diagnostic reports, and customer records.
  • Customer Communication: Deliver clear, professional updates and recommendations to clients and stakeholders regarding system performance and service needs.
  • Team Collaboration: Coordinate with engineers, facility managers, and field supervisors to support industrial project execution and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of direct experience in commercial or industrial chiller and HVAC system service.
  • Technical training or certification in HVAC/R systems from an accredited trade school or equivalent.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
  • Strong knowledge of Large-capacity chillers (100+ tons), Industrial cooling towers and hydronic systems, Control panels, VFDs, and automation, Mechanical teardown and rebuild procedures
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with job safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and OSHA standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OEM certifications or factory training from Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, or similar.
  • Experience working in industrial or mission-critical environments (e.g., manufacturing plants, clean rooms, labs, or data centers).
  • Proficiency in using and interpreting Building Automation Systems (BAS) and energy management tools.
  • Experience with rigging and equipment transport in confined industrial spaces.
