The California Department of Education seeks an Education Administrator I (EAI) to lead the Apprenticeship, Academy, and Internship Office (AAIO) under the Career and College Transition Division.
The EAI will provide statewide leadership for a comprehensive portfolio of secondary career pathways programs, including the California Partnership Academies, Golden State Pathways Program, apprenticeship and internship initiatives, and the Arts, Entertainment, and Design industry sector. The incumbent will develop policy analysis and program recommendations aimed at improving student performance and reducing dropout rates across California's schools. Responsibilities include planning and directing statewide career technical education (CTE) programs, coordinating the expansion and improvement of existing initiatives, and overseeing contracts managed by AAIO staff.
A significant component of the position involves fostering the integration of academic and career technical education. The EAI I will promote strategies and provide technical assistance to local educational agencies implementing the Academic and CTE Model Curriculum Standards and Frameworks across partnership academies, internship programs, and apprenticeship programs. The incumbent will also provide presentations, workshops, and professional development activities to support implementation of unit initiatives.
The EAI will supervise and manage AAIO staff across multiple classifications and oversee all business operations of the unit, including budget, accounting, contracts, personnel, data, and technology functions. The incumbent will maintain collaborative relationships with other CDE divisions, state agencies, county offices of education, business and community partners, and professional associations involved in secondary education.
This position requires travel throughout California and occasional travel outside the state. The position is based at CDE Headquarters and offers a hybrid telework option.

This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. TELEWORK OPTION
HYBRID
This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and working a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.
